10 creative games to play over text
I don’t know about you, but I get all giddy when my cell phone lights up that I have a text and I see that it’s from my husband! We do the typical “How is your day going?”, “What do you want for dinner tonight?” texts almost EVERY DAY!
It doesn’t matter if you have been with your significant other for years, months, or even days, sometimes it’s nice to step away from the typical day to day texting and have a little fun with it! Not only can texting games help you add a little variety to your texting life with your special someone, but it can help you get to know each other better! This article will show you what games to play over text!
Fun Texting Games
1. 20 Questions
Twenty questions is a fun game you can play over text! One of you chooses a person, place, or thing. Then, the other person asks “yes” or “no” questions and has to guess what the first person is thinking of in 20 questions or less!
So, if I chose my coffee mug as my item, the other person may ask “Is it a person?”, to which I would respond “No”. “Is it an item?”, to which I would respond “Yes”. You keep asking and answering questions like this until the person guesses correctly or has used up all of their 20 questions!
2. Never Have I Ever
Never Have I Ever is a great way to learn things about a new boyfriend/girlfriend, but it can also be a fun game to play to learn random things about someone you think you know very well!
Normally, Never Have I Ever is a drinking game, but it is easy to make into a fun (possibly sexy) texting game! One person will make a statement saying that “never have they ever” done something. If you HAVE done the thing they said, you lose and have to take a shot.
If you don’t drink, you can play for points or, if you want to make it a little sexier…Strip Never Have I Ever!! Instead of getting a point or taking a shot, remove a piece of clothing! Then, send a little picture of what you removed to your other half!
The winner is the person at the end of the game who has the least amount of points (or the most clothes still on)!
3. Song Lyrics
Song lyrics is a great game for music lovers! You simply text a line from a song and the other person has to guess what song it is! This can be tough because it isn’t as easy to guess a song when you are reading the lyrics instead of singing them!
If you are more of a movie-loving couple, try it with lines from movies.
4. Truth or Dare
Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned game of Truth or Dare? One person asks a question and the other person can either answer the question TRUTHFULLY, or can choose a dare! If you choose a dare, use your camera to send proof that you actually performed the dare!
When you are asking questions, remember, don’t ask a question if you don’t want to know the answer! They HAVE to answer truthfully, so be ready to hear the truth!
5. Name Game
Name game can be harder than it sounds! To play, the two of you need to come up with a subject such as; cities, actresses, musicians, bands, etc. Then, the first person sends a name of whatever subject you choose. The second person then has to come up with a name that starts with the last letter of that word.
If we were using cities, the first person may say Cleveland. The second person then has to come up with a city that starts with a “D”…Denver. Now the other person has to come up with a city that starts with “R”. This continues until someone can’t come up with a name.
6. Story Time
Who knows where you will end up when you play Story Time! Each person takes turns sending a word, sentence, or phrase to create a story. You go back and forth with each person adding to the “Story” with their own word, sentence, or phrase to make a story!
Have fun and get creative. You never know where your stories will end up!
One person starts by saying a word or a phrase. Then, the next person has to come back with a word or a phrase that rhymes with the previous word or phrase. Whoever gets stumped first, loses.
8. Personal Trivia
Even if you’ve been with your partner for a while, there is always more to learn about them! That’s where Personal Trivia comes in!
This can be a great game to play if you are just getting to know your partner. You can ask questions like, “Where did you grow up?”, or “Who was your childhood best friend?”. Your questions can lead to conversations, and before you know it, you would think you knew each other forever.
If you have been with your partner for a while, you probably already know the answers to the typical “getting to know you” questions. You could ask things like “If we were stranded on a desert island, what would we do all day?”, “If you could move anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?”. You can also throw in some more provocative questions like “If you were here right now, what would we be doing?”
9. Most Likely To
This is a fun little game that I have seen played at some bridal showers, but it can be turned into a fun little texting game that can make you laugh.
You ask questions and decide which of the two of you would be most likely to do something! Who is most likely to throw their clothes next to the clothes hamper? Who is most likely to talk through a movie?
I can just about guarantee that some of your answers will make you both laugh and will get you into funny little conversations!
10. Questions Only
The “Question Only” game is fun, but can be hard! The first person asks a question. The catch…you have to respond BACK with a question! You can’t answer the question being asked!
This can be hard because you’re used to answering a question when asked, not responding to it with another question! The person who doesn’t answer the question with a question loses!
The fun thing about these games is that you can adjust them to fit where you are in your relationship. If you are in a new relationship and just getting to know someone, you can make it more G rated. If you have been together for a while and want to spice things up, make it more risque.
